Travel Info – Andaman

Andaman offers a beautiful blend of nature, history and modern comforts, making it a peaceful and safe holiday destination. Indian citizens do not require any special permit to visit Port Blair, Havelock or Neil Island. A valid government photo ID is enough. However, foreign nationals require special entry permits which are usually arranged at the airport.

Food in Andaman is delicious and diverse. From fresh seafood to North & South Indian meals, Bengali dishes, vegetarian options and international cuisines, travelers get plenty of choices. Most hotels offer buffet breakfast and restaurants are easily available on all major islands. Being an island destination, food prices can be slightly higher compared to mainland India.

Andaman is ideal for water lovers. Travelers can enjoy scuba diving, snorkeling, sea walk, jet ski, parasailing and boat rides under safe supervision. Mobile networks work in Port Blair reasonably well, but internet is slow on islands like Havelock and Neil — perfect for a digital detox experience. Andaman is extremely safe, people are friendly and tourism is well-organized, making it great for families, honeymooners and solo travelers.

How to Reach Andaman

By Air: The fastest and most convenient way to reach Andaman is by flight to Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair. Regular direct flights operate from major Indian cities such as Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Flight duration is generally around two to five hours depending on the departure location.

By Sea: Andaman can also be reached by passenger ships that operate occasionally from Chennai, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam. The journey usually takes around sixty to seventy hours and is chosen mainly by travelers who wish to experience long sea travel. Most tourists prefer flights as they are quicker and more comfortable.

By Rail / Road: There is no direct rail or road connectivity to Andaman as it is a group of islands located in the Bay of Bengal. Travelers must reach Port Blair either by air or sea and then travel to other islands like Havelock and Neil by ferry services.

Best Time to Visit Andaman

Peak Season (October to April): This is the best time to visit Andaman as the weather remains pleasant, the sea is calm and perfect for sightseeing, beach activities and water sports. It is ideal for family trips, honeymoons and holidays.

Summer Season (April to June): The temperature stays warm but manageable, making it suitable for travel and adventure activities like scuba diving and snorkeling. This period is also good for budget travelers compared to peak months.

Monsoon Season (July to September): This is the off-season with frequent rainfall and rough sea conditions, which may affect ferry services and water activities. However, it is a peaceful and budget-friendly time with fewer tourists.
